Over several years, on Sunday nights, off and on
I’ve gone to an Open Mic I like called The Salon.
Cover, minimum (come choose food or booze; who’s sober? Me).
The producer: let’s introduce her: Tanya Moberly.
Mark Janas, on keys, accompanies/plays host; plays Bach
All welcome to sing anything from show tunes to rock.
Some do something new, to preview their cabaret act
It might be a “light” night, but often it’s packed.
Out-of-towners, beginners, MAC Award winners
Sing pop with (optional) theme du jour. Some eat dinners.
Featured guests/ guest co-hosts, some new discovery
Not all find success or, God bless, even the key.
But that’s what open mics are, not superstar shows
Toss of the dice, but much of it nice, and this week…who knows?
